Horses in the Central DrakensbergWith such a huge offer of Horse-Riding, Hiking, Mountain Biking, Bowls, Tennis, Golf and much more you will find plenty to to but if chilling out is your thing then you have still come to the right place. And what's better than than relaxing in front of a crackling fire in the evening, after a fun-filled exhilarating day in the Drakensberg Mountains with a glass of old brown cherry.

Giants Castle - Spectacular hiking trails in the DrakensbergThe Drakensberg mountains of South Africa or uKhahlamba (the Barrier of Spears) is a 200-kilometre-long mountainous wonderland and world heritage site. The largest and most spectacular aspects of the Drakensberg falls in the kingdom of KwaZulu-Natal. Check out our Drakensberg Gallery for a taste of what spectacular scenery awaits.

Accommodation in the Drakensberg Region caters for all tastes and budgets... from luxury resorts and hotels with ultra-modern conference facilities to guest- houses, B&B establishments, caravan parks and cabins. Out in 'the wild', huts and listed caves await weary hikers. Thousands of trails are marked across the Berg - from short ambles through indigenous fern forests to more strenuous day-long traversing of river and hillside to full-on adventuring in the face of nature. Although accidents are rare, planned walks of more than a few hours require prior completion of the Mountain Rescue Register. Part of each entry fee to a KZN Wildlife protected area goes towards the invaluable emergency service provided by volunteers of the Mountain Club of South Africa.

You may not want to venture further than one of the four stunningly- situated golf courses, however, or your artistic talents may be so inspired that days spent blissfully capturing the surrounding magic on canvas are more than satisfying. Horse trails and scenic self-drives offer respite for aching feet without missing the unforgettable experience of, say, watching rare birds of prey settling down to dine at a 'Vulture Restaurant'. Or you could cast a line in one of the trout streams and more than likely catch your own lunch

Accommodation in the central Drakensberg at the Antbear GuesthouseAlthough I has tried to remain objective about everything the Drakensberg offers its tourists I have found a few accommodation establishments that stand out especially through their hospitality and helpfulness of the hosts. I have listed my most recommended places of the Drakensberg and would like to thank those owners for their welcoming arms and enthusiasm for the Drakensberg Mountains that we all love so much. Also the website www.drakensberg-tourism.com is a very valuable resource for everything Drakensberg related and by far the best I know of. I found lots of excellent information on this site and yes Andrew I had my best Drakensberg trip ever with you in the shadow of Giants Castle. Thanks for all your help and advice on how to build Drakensberg.Net.
